If I were stranded in a desert kitchen and I could only chose one piece of cookware to bring, it would be my Dutch oven. I love my Dutch oven. I’m not quite sure what I did before I owned one. I use mine for everything. I’m probably not even using it right. But, I. Do. Not. Care. If my life is made easier by this amazing piece of enamel coated cast iron and the food tastes good, what more could I ask for?
One of my favorite things about cooking with a Dutch oven is that it cuts down on the amount of dishes that need to be cleaned after cooking a meal. Priorities, people!
It’s sort of a one pot cooks all. I no longer need a non-stick pan to sauté, a pot to boil and a baking dish for the oven. This bad boy does everything. Go straight from the stovetop to the oven. It is great for braising and slow cooking. But, I make lots of soups, chilies and stews and I find that with the lid on it cooks dishes evenly and much faster than pots I used before.
Many of you probably already have one of these and are thinking, “Duh”. But, I didn’t make this awesome discovery until late in life, so there is a chance some of you haven’t either. Get one! I’m doing you a solid.
I just bought one of these for my mother. I wasn’t sure what exactly you can make with it but it looked pretty. I may have to treat myself to one too!

Obviously your mother never told you about it…because I don’t have one! I just might have to get my own. 🙂
