Pillows! I love throw pillows! Throw pillows have the ability to change the look of a room with the littlest of effort. I often switch up my pillows depending on the season, and sometimes even my mood! A great, cost effective way to do this, is to NOT buy throw pillows all the time but to buy pillow covers instead. Throw pillows themselves can be quite costly and I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to spend a ton of money each season, holiday and time I get bored. Plus, who has the room to store all those throw pillows when they aren’t in use?? My suggestion…. Use existing pillows or buy decent inner cushions and swap out covers when you need a change. Most of my favorite inexpensive cushion covers come from Ikea, Hobby Lobby and Amazon.
For this Christmas season I decided I wanted to decorate my great room in only silver, golds and whites. I wanted festive throw pillows that would fit in with this theme without having to hide another receipt from my husband this Christmas season … oops…. totally kidding honey! 😉 I had been seeing reindeer silhouette pillows all over in stores and catalogues and I really loved the look, so I took a spin around the internet and found this stencil.
I hit up my nearest IKEA for some $4 white pillow covers. I have a few of these already, and they are really great quality for a price you can’t beat. I had the gold, faux leather type, fabric leftover from a costume I made for my daughter’s last birthday and I used a no-heat fabric glue that I always have on hand (since I will do anything to avoid sewing). I simply printed the stencil on cardstock, carefully cut it out, and then traced the stencil onto the back of my fabric. After cutting the outline from my fabric, I applied my fabric glue to the back and carefully positioned it on my pillows. After about 30mins of drying time, I had these:

Not bad for $8, right??

Very true! Covers are the smartest way to go!
